To support and develop research activities, the Department of Scientific Research combines flexible services and consultations in the direction of fundraising, research management and grant administration.
To foster research endeavors, the University implemented a grant funding system in 2018 founded upon the principles of transparency, fairness, and publicity. Grants are announced through open competition and are open to University academic staff, CIU students, and/or alumni. Until 2023, competitions included small scientific grants and grants for fundamental research. The primary objective of grant competitions is to facilitate the exploration of innovative ideas, events, facts, theories, and models. Over the long term, the research endeavor is intended to underpin social, political, and cultural progress. Funded research through CIU scientific grant competitions contributes to the development of a competitive research environment, high-quality research, alignment with international standards, integration of research results into the educational process, and the growth of young researchers' scientific potential through their involvement in research.
During September 2018 - September 2024, the university's affiliated staff raised 38 academic research grants totaling GEL 2.2 million. These research projects involve not only academic personnel but also young researchers and students who contribute as key or support personnel.
Besides, 40 research projects were conducted in collaboration with an international team of researchers and supported by 23 international and one local fund and/or economic agent.
Twelve studies conducted with international and local partners and scientists are being conducted at the university (with a total budget of 1,106,800 GEL) within the framework of research grants.
