    CIU Scientific Prize “Tamar” Award Ceremony

    On July 17, Caucasus International University held the fourth annual award ceremony of the Scientific Prize “Tamar” at the Sheraton Grand Tbilisi Metekhi Palace Hotel. 

    Within the framework of the event, the award winners were officially announced. The first prize was awarded to microbiologist Sofio Rigvava; the second prize went to obstetrician-gynecologist Magda Tortladze; and the third prize was granted to philologist Nino Mindiashvili. The “Outstanding Scientific Achievement” award was presented to Tornike Sologhashvili, cardiac surgeon workin in Geneva, while the “Young Scientist” nomination was awarded to agronomist Shengeli Kikilashvili.

    Each laureate received a monetary prize and a specially crafted gilded medal.

    The event was opened by Sesili Gogiberidze, Head of the Scientific Research Department at Caucasus International University. The audience was addressed by Kakhaber Kordzaia, Rector of Caucasus International University, Vakhtang Tsivtsivadze, Chancellor of Caucasus International University, Zviad Gabisonia, Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia, Teimuraz Dochviri, Director General of Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Gergia, poet Tariel Kharkhelauri, and Mzia Kutateladze, Director of G. Eliava Institute of Bacteriophages, Microbiology and Virology. 

    The event was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia, Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia, the Patriarchate of Georgia, various state and private sector representatives, as well as the leadership, academic and administrative staff of Caucasus International University.

    Please note that the Tamar Prize was established by Caucasus International University in 2017, with the blessing of His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia. It is named in honor of Queen Tamar of Georgia, a historic figure known for her progressive and humane leadership in the Caucasus, as well as her patronage of intellectuals and artists. The prize is awarded to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to science at both local and international levels. Its primary aim is to encourage scientific research, increase motivation among scholars, and support the professional advancement. 

    Over the past 8 years, Caucasus International University has demonstrated a significant increase in scientific publications and research activity: more than 300 scientific articles have been published in international peer-reviewed journals, including 114 in the Scopus and Web of Science Core Collection databases; affiliated staff of the university have participated in more than 130 international scientific conferences; more than 40 studies have been implemented in collaboration with international scientists; grant funding has been obtained from leading international institutions, including: Horizon Europe, CIF, DAAD; in the last three years, 14 projects have won grant competitions of Shota Rustaveli National Foundation, including 5 grant projects for fundamental research; a university scientific journal has been established, which is already indexed in ERIH PLUS and Index Copernicus scientific databases.
