Annual scientific award “Tamar” has been established by the initiative and organization of Caucasus International University. This award will be announced annually and successful scientists, postgraduates and doctoral students of the university will be appreciated for their scientific and research activities.
By the decision of the organizing group, the scientific award was named after Georgian King Tamar, the implementer of the progressive and humane policy in the Caucasus, and the patron of intellectuals and artists. In addition, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Ilia II approved and blessed this initiative and name.
Thevconcluding event of 2017 scientific conference held at Courtyard Marriott Ball Room was attended by CIU management and administration, academic personnel, famous scientists and researchers, parliament and local assembly members and other honorary guests.
The award ceremony of the scientific award “Tamar” was opened by CIU Rector and contest committee chairperson – Kakhaber Kordzaia. He placed emphasis on the support of scientists, their stimulation and the importance of motivation and thanked each scientist participating in the contest.
Alexandre Tevzadze, Deputy Minister of Education and science of Georgia, Roin Metreveli, Vice President of Georgian National Academy of Sciences and Marika Darchia, Deputy Chairperson of Local Assembly delivered speeches in front of the audience. The speakers highlighted the significance of CIU initiative and positively assessed the decision of the university to support and encourage scientific activities.
Sesili Gogiberidze, Head of CIU Department of Scientific Researches summarized the scientific contest. As stated by her, each faculty representative of the university was actively involved in the process of revealing the winners together with the contest committee. From 29 scientists registered for the scientific award “Tamar”, the winners have been revealed by the committee in accordance to strict criteria and evaluation system.
The winners of the scientific award “Tamar” were announced at the three (I, II and III) awards. Giorgi Kekelidze, Director of the National Library of Georgia congratulated Mariam Jikia on the third award and the nomination of the best young scientist. Nino Gachechiladze, Deputy General Director of Shota Rustaveli National Foundation announced the second award, which was awarded to Sophia Kasradze. The Director of the Georgian National Museum - David Lortkipanidze informed the audience about the winner of the first award. This award was awarded to Manana Maridashvili, CIU Associate Professor.
The winners were awarded cash awards (I Award – 3750 GEL, II Award – 2500 GEL, III Award- 1250 GEL) and medals.
Vakkhtang Tsivtsivadze, CIU Chancellor thanked each participant and stated the project role and its significance at the concluding part of the event. The chancellor expressed his hope that this idea will become larger scale and other higher education institutions will also express their willingness to encourage scientific activities. By the decision of CIU Chancellor, within the framework of the award, the special participants Maya Merlan, Irma Mdinaradze and Caren Mulkijanian were awarded by evaluation of the committee.
We would like to remind you that the award ceremony of the scientific award “Tamar” was held for the first time this year. By the decision of CIU founders and organizing committee it will become an annual event.
