Conference - “1700 Years of Christian Unity in Georgia”
On June 11, a scientific conference was held at Caucasus International University, dedicated to the 1700th anniversary of the declaration of Christianity as the state religion in Georgia. This historical date represents a significant milestone in the history of the country’s spiritual, cultural and state development, which is why a number of large-scale events are planned throughout the country to celebrate it throughout 2026.
Before the conference, the honored guests met with Vakhtang Tsivtsivadze, the Chancellor of Caucasus International University. At the meeting, the Chancellor placed emphasis on the significance of such scientific initiatives and confirmed the full support of the university.
The scientific conference was officially opened by Professor Kakhaber Kordzaia, the Rector of Caucasus International University. The audience was addressed by the Metropolitan Daniel of Chiatura and Sachkhere, Vakhtang Taktakidze, the Rector of Samtskhe-Javakheti State University, and the poet Tariel Kharkhelauri. The moderator of the event and the chairperson of the organizing committee was the Advisor to the Rector of Caucasus International University, Associate Professor Giorgi Pareshishvili.
The work within the framework of the conference was carried out in two sessions, where the speakers discussed the role of Christianity from different disciplinary perspectives: historical context, social impact and modernity; Christian art, architecture, literature and philosophy.
It is noteworthy that, along with students from Caucasus International University, students from Samtskhe-Javakheti University presented their works at the conference.
An important step was taken within the framework of the event towards deepening educational partnership. A memorandum of understanding was signed between Caucasus International University and Samtskhe-Javakheti State University. The document envisages the implementation of joint scientific and educational activities between the two higher educational institutions.
At the end of the conference, the participants were awarded relevant certificates.
The conference is supported by the International Center for Christian Research “LOGOS” of the Georgian Orthodox Church and Samtskhe-Javakheti State University.
